SP-Arte: Sculptures with Light

Sculptures with Light

Reflections Exhibition In addition to designing the façade, Superlimão is presenting the Reflections exhibition, which explores a reflection of human existence through light. Light offers an instant and synchronized portrait of a moment and a reality, which can be manipulated and adjusted as needed. This same light, by repeating complementary moments and forms, creates a portrait of the present and a vision of the future. The exhibition invites visitors to contemplate their own relevance in the universe through conceptual light sculptures. Through light, the aim is to reveal how the environment and time shape each person's identity and destiny, recognizing that each individual reflects light in a unique way. In designing the stand, we opted for an unconventional volumetry, making the most of the available materials in terms of structure and acoustics. The need to manage lighting led us to the solution of implementing domes that allowed precise control of the entry of light, ensuring that the light intensity did not interfere with the different pieces on display. Each stand layout was meticulously planned to integrate a dome, resulting in a solution based on geodesic structures. The use of modular PET panels offered a lightweight, practical and efficient solution. The geodesic shape itself is renowned for its structural efficiency in nature, and being entirely constructed from PET - specifically 9016 bottles - its structure is self-supporting, eliminating the need for additional cladding. In addition to lighting control, the stand provides efficient acoustic control. The sensation of enveloping visitors and transporting them to a distinct environment at the fair is achieved through these structures, allowing a focused perception of the pieces on display. This approach not only highlights the acoustic qualities of the material, but also facilitates the assembly and dismantling of the stand, which is prefabricated and can be reused. Among the pieces in the exhibition, the highlights are the "Witness", a meteorite that symbolizes the human connection with the cosmos, the "Shadow", which represents the present in constant transformation, and the "Flock", a visual animation that celebrates unity and collaboration. [Witness] When we observe our planet, we find countless manifestations of the permanence of life and existence, which far exceed the brief duration of human existence. We represent only a tiny fraction of time in the vast panorama of the planet and the universe. Here we present a witness that has wandered through space and time for thousands of years, shaped by its journey, and which we reveal here. The Witness is a meteorite composed of iron ore, similar to those found on our planet, showing our connection and belonging to the universe. The Widmastätten Pattern, exclusive to Muonionalusta-type meteorites, gives the piece an even greater singularity, with its own design that reflects light in a unique way, a result of the specific conditions of space over millennia. In the piece, the addressable LED light that orbits around the meteorite evokes its trajectory in the dark vastness of the universe, while its crystal magnifying lens reveals and highlights its unique, complex construction, full of reflections and textures. As a support, we used its own transformed essence, a stainless steel metal structure that identifies its name and origin. [Shadow] The Shadow represents the present moment, a photograph and interpretation of a reality that, like all life, transforms and presents a multiplicity of perspectives. Its objective is to instigate reflection on what we have done so far and on the projections we desire. We have two protagonists here, the bird and its shadow; the second can represent the present, a translation of the light on the object, and the bird contains within itself all the experiences that accompany us. To create this ephemeral and changeable sculpture, we looked for devices that would produce this effect in a subtle way and that would not visually interfere with the created form. With a metal mesh folding and an articulated arm that allows the battery-powered LED light to be directed. [Flock] Seconds that pass imperceptibly to the eye, events in sequence, like frames that appear between flashes of light. Life is a succession of facts from our own story, and no story has a single character. Sharing our moments and knowledge shows us that the union of efforts results in more significant actions. The Flock is made up of birds meticulously folded by hand in different flight positions inside a dome. The rotation of the set at a speed combined with the frequency of the flashing of the strobe light create the animation of the birds in flight.
