RF Apartment

São Paulo

A 160 m² apartment from the 1950s on Paulista Avenue, rich in history and with clients willing to showcase all the signs of time. Superlimão's project in the classic Saint Honoré building, designed by Artacho Jurado, welcomed a couple involved in art, architecture, and photography. They wanted an apartment to host friends for dinners and get-togethers. With the shift in lifestyle priorities from the 1950s to today, the service passage between the kitchen and the main entrance no longer made sense for the family's current use. They decided to demolish the entire hallway, expanding the living room and unifying the kitchen and service area, transforming all spaces into social areas. The service bathroom became a powder room, and the pantry became one of the children's bathrooms. Because it's an older apartment, the windows are generous throughout. The view from the living room and bedrooms is Paulista Avenue, and the windows in the kitchen and service area allow for cross-ventilation. We sought to preserve as much of the existing finishes as possible to enhance the history of the place. In the living room, the walls were sanded down to the structural elements; in the bedroom/office, the walls were stripped down to the brickwork; the entire floor in the living room and bedrooms retained the original parquet flooring. For the color palette, tones were chosen that reflect the building's construction period and Artacho Jurado's design. The burnt pink ceiling complements the rustic walls, and the entire kitchen is in shades of blue, with terrazzo floors and pigmented concrete countertops. For the interiors, the first option was to source Brazilian furniture, such as the Lúcio chair and the Diz armchair by Sergio Rodrigues.
