Superlimão is the firm responsible for the concept and architecture of deBetti Iburapuera, a brand specializing in dry-aged meats. Adjacent to São Paulo's main park, Ibirapuera Park, the concept, functionality, and spatial layout were inspired by the trees and expansive surrounding greenery.
The main innovation and challenge for the development of deBetti Ibirapuera is the combination of two business models: restaurant and market, in a single space. To achieve this, the view of Ibirapuera Park, as well as its contemplative atmosphere, guided architectural decisions to ensure the space was pleasant for both long gatherings around tables and quick purchases.
Tubular metal arches bridged large spans, making deBetti Ibirapuera lighter visually and structurally. These arches evoke the branches of the region's trees, and their 'canopies' are formed by solar panels that generate energy for the restaurant and create shaded spaces on the outdoor deck. Mirrors reflect the surroundings and create the sensation of being in the shade of the trees.
"Below the panels, climbing plants take over the structures, which improves protection, humidifies the area, and creates a pleasant microclimate without wasting energy," says Lula Gouveia, partner and architect at Superlimão.
A glass-enclosed charcuterie, where the meats are aged, allows customers to understand, right upon entering, the process that makes deBetti one of Brazil's most famous barbecue restaurants. The chamber includes an area where diners can enjoy the products on site, and also features a rotisserie, where preheated and ready-to-eat items are sold.
The element draws attention from the facade, drawing the eye of those passing by on the sidewalk or street. Outside, a metal pergola was created to protect part of the charcuterie and provide space for plants to grow over time, further integrating the space visually with the park. The sloping pergola allows for a view of the installed solar panels, highlighting not only its sustainable aspect but also deBetti's commitment to solar energy.
Upon entering deBetti Ibirapuera, customers are directed to the market, which connects to the indoor restaurant and outdoor deck. The furniture is on casters to allow for adapting the space to meet demand, especially on busy days.
Inside the store, specific areas were designed for bathrooms, a butcher's area, and a kitchen. Opposite the kitchen, the bar counter allows customers to closely observe the preparation of the meats.
The restaurant area is divided into two sections: one covered and the other equipped with a retractable pergola, allowing for open-air dining in an atmosphere similar to Quintal deBetti, the group's restaurant, characterized by its relaxed and inviting atmosphere.
Finally, in the outdoor area, a non-climate-controlled wine cellar was installed, featuring wine bottles embedded in concrete blocks. Besides serving as a decorative element, it allows customers to choose from different wines to enjoy in the restaurant or even purchase to take home, reinforcing deBetti Ibirapuera's vision: a complete experience for its guests.
