Superlimão is the office responsible for the concept and architecture of deBetti Iburapuera, a brand specializing in dry-aged meats. Located next to the main park in the capital of São Paulo, Ibirapuera Park, the concept, functionality and spatial layout of the unit were inspired by the trees and the expanse of the surrounding green area.
The main novelty and challenge for the development of deBetti Ibirapuera is the combination of two business models in a single space: restaurant and market. To achieve this, the view of Ibirapuera Park, as well as its contemplative atmosphere, guided architectural decisions so that the space would be pleasant for both long meetings around the tables and for quick purchases.
Metal tubular arches allowed large spans to be overcome, making deBetti Ibirapuera lighter in terms of appearance and structure. These arches are reminiscent of the branches of the trees in the region, and their 'canopies' are formed by solar panels that generate energy for the restaurant and create shaded spaces on the outdoor deck. Mirrors appear to reflect the surroundings and create the sensation of being under the shade of the trees.
“Below the panels, climbing plants take over the structures, which improves protection, humidifies the area and creates a pleasant microclimate, without wasting energy”, says Lula Gouveia, partner and architect at Superlimão.
A glass-enclosed charcuterie, where the meats are aged, allows customers to understand, right at the entrance, the process that makes deBetti one of the most famous barbecue restaurants in Brazil. The chamber includes an area where people can enjoy the products on site, and also has a rotisserie, where pre-heated and ready-to-eat items are sold.
The element draws attention from the façade, attracting the gaze of those passing by on the sidewalk or in the street. In the outdoor area, a pergola with a metal structure was created to protect part of the delicatessen, in addition to serving as a space for plants to grow over time, visually integrating the environment even further with the park. The inclined pergola allows the installed solar panels to be seen, highlighting not only its sustainable aspect, but also deBetti's commitment to solar energy.
Upon entering deBetti Ibirapuera, customers are directed to the market, which connects to the indoor restaurant and the outdoor deck. The furniture has casters to allow the space to be adapted according to demand, especially on busy days.
Inside the unit, specific areas were designed for bathrooms, the butcher's shop and the kitchen. Facing it, the bar counter gives customers the opportunity to closely monitor the preparation of the meats.
The restaurant area is divided into two parts: one covered and the other equipped with a retractable pergola, which allows for open-air dining, in an atmosphere similar to Quintal deBetti, the group's restaurant that is characterized by its relaxed and inviting atmosphere.
Finally, in the outdoor area, a non-climatized wine cellar was installed, which features wine bottles fitted into concrete blocks. In addition to serving as a decorative element, it allows customers to choose between different wine labels to enjoy in the restaurant or even purchase to take home, reinforcing the proposal of deBetti Ibirapuera: a complete experience for its customers.
