Xdome
São Paulo
Superlimão's design for XDome, a large electronic gaming – or e-sports – arena, was created with the goal of delivering an interactive space that would become a benchmark for the gaming universe. The goal is to tell its history and evolution from arcades, through consoles (and the tradition of "couch gaming"), arcades, and culminating in the main stage for virtual games.
Located in the Metrô Santa Cruz Shopping Mall in São Paulo, the space is changeable and versatile, catering to a variety of uses as needed: open to the general public of gaming fans; training for professional teams; and even competitions and special events.
The design of the large arena is inspired by the classic duality suggested by games, the battle of "good versus evil," the battle between two teams. Spatially, the antagonism is represented by strong elements that highlight this contrast and create the sensation of a tunnel, which gradually reveals the arena. At the entrance, on one side, simple, smooth, well-lit shapes appear, with a minimalist touch. On the other, the antagonistic, prismatic, jagged, dark, and heavy form.
The raw element on the right houses the reception, arcade games, console area, and, upon reaching the double-height area, the "HQ" of Final Level, a gaming entertainment platform. Enclosed in glass to maintain interaction with the audience in the arena, Final Level HQ was a space specially created for live streaming and content generation. The lighter element on the left houses the Redragon equipment and peripherals store, a broadcast booth, and team training areas.
Interactivity and mobility, which allow for easy changes of scenery, are important highlights of the space's technology. Addressable lighting, which allows for different compositions and colors, becomes a fundamental element in the development of the concept.
The furniture, specially designed by Superlimão for XDome, is a key element in the space's versatility. Equipped with casters, the mobile tables hold all the necessary equipment for computers and peripherals and can be easily moved around the arena as needed. The wiring comes from the ceiling-mounted structure, leaving the floor free of power outlets for flexible station placement, allowing equipment to be easily plugged in and unplugged. This solution makes the furniture extremely practical while also ensuring safe equipment care and handling.
Finally, the crowning glory of the arena is the dome: a dome reminiscent of major competition stages and home to the computer stations. It houses various lighting options that enhance the space.
